The True Meaning of Sin

The English Oxford dictionary defines sin as,

Sin – a serious or regrettable fault, offence, omission, brought shame down, offend ELOHIYM, sin has a particular undesirable quality to a high degree.

On http://www.biblestudytools.com sin is seen as,

Sin – a riddle, a mystery, a reality that eludes definition and comprehension. A wrongdoing or transgression of ELOHIYM’s law. A failure to do what is right. Offends people; it is violence and lovelessness toward others, and ultimately, rebellion against ELOHIYM. A person’s heart is corrupted and inclined toward evil. The concept of
sin is complex, and the terminology large and varied.

In most churches sin is seen as,

An act or ommission that separates you from ELOHIYM. Breaking ELOHIYM’s commandments. And most mentioned
is the whole list of acts, which is not limited to, such as fornication, murder, rape, living together, adultery, lies and drunkenness.

Now lets look at the meaning of sin in the Ancient Hebrew language.

The first word to be used for sin is

HATA is “to miss” something, “to fail.”, “to stray away”

It signifies a failure of mutual relations and correspondsto the modern idea of “offense” within a relationship rather than the theological concept of “sin.”

One who fulfils the claims of a relationship or an agreement is righteous (Yashar – stands upright, in right standing, walks a straight path, is not missing from the path/relationship)

There are about 20 different Hebrew words which denote sin in the Scriptures.

The three words that are used the most often are HET, PESHA, and AVON.

The root HET occurs 459 times and means to “miss” which is described as to literally, “miss the target with an arrow” That is the one that “misses”, offends, breaks, does not fulfil his obligations in the relationship, the guilty transgressor. The one who fulfils the agreement is innocent, while the one who does not is guilty. The original Hebrew meaning of sin, which is very different from the churches theological views of sin.

And I am saying churches and not one church. Any church leader that says that all denominations are one church is a liar. The question that you need to ask is what other lies is he telling you?

A sinful act is a matter between two parties. The one who does not fulfil his obligations in relation to the other is a sinner with regard to the latter “he sins against him” – and so gives the other a claim upon him.

Is your pastor sinning against you with his lies?
The root PESHA occurs 136 times and means a “breach of a covenant, a trespass against” Pesha is a rebellious sin. Acts of this type are said to dissolve the community or break the peaceful relations between two parties, as in cases involving international treaties. This is the Messianic Covenant that you enter into when your relationship with YAHUAH starts and i.e. to love HIM by doing HIS commandments. There’s no unconditional love in a relationship. When you don’t love YAHUAH you sin against HIM.

The word AVON basically expresses the idea of a moral failing, crookedness and wrong doings. It can be best described as the result of or fruits of the Het and Pesha sins. The rabbis rarely speak of sin in the abstract. They usually speak of specific sins. There are sins of commission(Duty) and omission(Error, blunder). They also divided sins into light and heavy (sever) sins. The three most serious Avon sins are murder, idolatry, and sex (adultery and incest). The one who causes others to sin is considered to be worse than one who murders him, because the
murderer only excludes his victim from the mortal life, while the one who causes another to sin excludes him from an eternal life in the Kingdom to come.

I’m mentioning the amount of times the different sins are mentioned because the amount of times something is mentioned in the WORD denotes it’s importance. The Het sin is the most important sin to not commit.
The generic Hebrew word for any kind of sin is avera (literally: transgression).

There are three categories of a person who commits an avera. And is seen by the Jews as the following.

Avera categories

The intentional transgression. (The most serious transgression)

The accidental transgression. (It is considered to be less serious but the person is still responsible for their action.)

A person is unaware of YAHUAH. This person is not held accountable for his or her actions.

The Strong’s Concordance describes sins in the following categories.
Cheit – This is an unintentional sin, crime or fault. (Strong’s Concordance :H2399 (חַטָּא chate). According to Strong it comes from the root khaw-taw (:H2398, H2403) meaning “to miss, to err from the mark (speaking of an archer), to sin, to stumble.”

Pesha – (deliberate sin; in modern Hebrew: crime) or Mered (lit.: rebellion) An intentional sin; an action committed in deliberate defiance of ELOHIYM; (Strong’s Concordance :H6588 (פשע pesha’, peh’shah). According to Strong it comes from the root (:H6586); rebellion, transgression, trespass.

Avon (lit.: iniquity) – This is a sin of lust or uncontrollable emotion. It is a sin done knowingly, but not done to defy ELOHIYM; (Strong’s Concordance :H5771 (avon, aw-vone). According to Strong it comes from the root (:H5753); meaning perversity, moral evil: fault, iniquity, mischief.

All of these people have their own views as to what sin is and it seems like a matter of personal choice when one has to decide what sin is. So before looking at what the true sin is. Lets look at the three different types of people with regards to their relationship with YAHUAH to understand sin.

The Believer – Those within the Brethren that know YAHUAH and have an intimate (Paniym) relationship with HIM. They are ABBA’s children and hear HIS voice. They have a perfect love and faith. They do not fear and do not lack the knowledge or despise/reject HIS WORD or HIM.

The un-believer – Those within the Brethren that don’t know YAHUAH. They lack and or despise the knowledge of YAHUAH’s WORD and HIM. They have an unbelief/lack faith. They sow discord amongst the Brethren with their false doctrine. They are the most dangerous people in the Kingdom and world because of their half-truths.

The pagan/non-believer – Does not believe in and rejects YAHUAH. Serves dead gods.

When we look at their righteousness

Believers – Are in right standing with YAHUAH.

Un-believers – Are seen by the Kingdom and world to be in right standing with YAHUAH but they’re not.

Non-believers – They are not in right standing with YAHUAH.

So far we know that the most important sin to not commit is the Het sin which puts the emphasis on the RELATIONSHIP between ELOHIYM and you. When that relationship is missing then sin separates you from ELOHIYM. So let’s take the non-believers out of the equation and focus on the sin amongst the Believers. And look into the exact meaning of sin within the Het, Pesha and Avon sins.

The original Hebrew root for the word sin is to “miss”. It does not mean to commit something wrong; it simply means to miss, to be absent, forget.

This meaning has been included in a few English words such as Misconduct and misbehaviour. These words means that the correct and acceptable behaviour is missing. .

To miss in the sin context means to not be there, doing something without being present — this is the only sin. And the missing person is the reborn person.

This original meaning of sin has also been carried over into pagan beliefs.

“And the only virtue: while you are doing something you are fully alert.”

Gurdjieff calls self remembering,

Buddha calls being rightly mindful,

Krishnamurti calls awareness,

Kabir called SURATI. To be there!

That’s all that is needed, nothing more!

“What and who should be there?”

The first part of the answer is that your new self (Being reborn, baptised in RUACH, in MASHIACH and RUACH [SPIRIT] led) MUST be there.

The original Hebrew word for sin explains EXACTLY what is the primary focus of The Gospel and that is that the new person must be in MASHIACH.

Sin = New person is missing from being in YAHUSHUA.

By defining the results or fruits of sin as the only sins Believers missed the primary message of YAHUSHUA. And that is,

The old self must die and you must be reborn (Spiritually in MASHIACH),

Renew the soul (Mind and heart/feelings),

Get to yada (Know in the deepest sense.) ADONAI ELOHIYM YAHUAH,

Become like ADONAI YAHUAH,

Have a perfect love and faith,

Love ABBA and others as you love yourself,

Becoming COMPLETELY conscious, as a new person, in living The Way, The Truth and The Life.

We should not be focussing on the results of the sins but focus on getting to know YAHUAH.
The second part of the answer is that

You must paniym with YAHUAH.

Paniym – Face, faces, presence of YVWH.

When you are in right standing with HIM then HE will put HIS nose against your nose. Paniym describes the most intimate position that one can be with YAHUAH.

Many Believers say that they are in an intimate relationship with YAHUAH but they don’t know HIM. So here are a few questions to see whether you qualify as an un-believer.

Why does your god have no name?
Why do you say that your gods name is god?
Why do you say god when HE says ELOHIYM?
Why do you say god when HE says YAHUAH?
Where is the scripture that says HE loves all unconditionally?
Where is the scripture that says that YAHUAH loves the sinner and hates the sin?

If you can’t answer these questions correctly according to the WORD then you lack and or despise/reject the knowledge of YAHUAH’s WORD and HIM.
And the third and final part of the answer is that,

You do not love YAHUAH (You do not do HIS Commandments / Torah)

The true meaning of sin is that the following three aspects are missing in your life,

1. You are not reborn (Baptised in RUACH, be in MASHIACH, RUACH led)
2. You do not paniym with YAHUAH.
3. You do not love YAHUAH. (You do not DO HIS Commandments / Torah.)

Therefore any action of unconsciousness (Old self) is sin. The action may look virtuous, but it cannot be. You may create a beautiful façade, a character, a certain virtuousness; you may speak the truth, you may avoid lies; you may try to be moral, and so on and so forth. But if all this is coming from unconsciousness, it is all sin. It is because of this that YAHuSHUA has a tremendously significant saying.

“If your right eye causes you to sin, take it out and throw it away. It is much better for you to lose a part of your body than to have your whole body thrown into the eternal fire of death.” Mathew 5:29
Now, if you don’t understand the real meaning of sin, you are bound to misinterpret the whole statement and YAHUSHUA will look too harsh and too violent. Saying, “If your right eye causes you to sin, take it out and throw it away,” does not look like HIS type of literal statement. As a man of profound love and compassion, HE meant no harm or violence. But many believe that HE meant this literally.

What HE meant is this:

“Whatsoever causes you to forget yourself, Even if it is your right eye…”

That is just to emphasize the fact. It is simply a way of talking, an emphasis: “If your right eye causes you to forget yourself, then take it out and throw it away.” He is not saying anything that has to be taken literally; it is a metaphor. He is saying that

“It is better to be blind than to be forgetful of your reborn self,

because

the blind man who remembers his reborn self is not blind, he has the real eye. But if a man who has eyes forgets
his reborn self, what is the use of having eyes? If he cannot see his reborn self; what ELSE can he see?
This is what the WORD has to say when your reborn self is missing and you’re doing everything that is seen as righteous.

“All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like womens filthy rags (Women’s
dirty menstrual rags.); we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away” (Isaiah 64:6)

This is when we serve ourselves (Old self) and satan and are not in an intimate relationship with YAHUAH. Yet we can still be saved through YAHUSHUA. As it is written,

“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the demonic prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience,
among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But ELOHIM, being rich in mercy, because of the
great love with which HE loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with MASHIACH, for by YAHUAH’s undeserved favour you have been saved.” Ephesians. 2:1-5

Let’s have a look at what YHVH and YAHUSHUA have to say when we don’t know THEM (They are missing).

It is written,
“My people are destroyed/killed for lack of and or despising/rejecting my WORD/ME. Because you have despised/rejected MY knowledge, I also will despise/reject you from being MY priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your ELOHIYM, I also will forget your children.” Hosea 4:6

“Many will say to ME on that day, ‘Adon, Adon, did we not prophesy in YOUR name, and in YOUR name cast out demons, and in YOUR name perform many miracles?’ “And then I, YAHUSHUA, will declare to them, ‘I never knew
you; depart from ME, you who practice unrighteousness / lawlessness (Sins).” Mat 7:22-23
“He that has MY commandments, and keeps them, proves his love for ME: and he that loves ME shall be loved by MY FATHER, and I will love him, and will manifest MYSELF to him. Judas said unto HIM, not Iscariot, “ADON, how is it that THOU will manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?” YAHUSHUA answered and said unto him, If a man
loves ME, he will keep MY words: and MY FATHER will love him, and WE will come unto him, and make OUR abode with him. He that does not love ME does not keep my commandments: and the word which you hear is not MINE, but the FATHER who sent ME.” John 14:21-24

Now let’s look at the differences between the sins of the Believers and un-believers

It is written,

“If we claim to be without transgressions (sin), we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our transgressions (sins), HE is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all, from walking on the wrong path (unrighteousness). If we claim we have not rebelled (sinned), we make HIM out to be a liar and HIS
WORD is not in us.” 1 John 1:8-10

Because of the death, resurrection and ascension of YAHUSHUA Believers may ask for forgiveness and receive YAHUAH’s set apart (Kodesh), compassionate, good, forgiving, loving and undeserved favour filled heart. Provided that they turn away from the wrong path of satan and walk on ELOHIYM’s path. Therefore the power of YAHUSHUA’s blood prevents Believers occasional sins from separating them from YAHUAH. These transgressions are when the reborn self is missing and manifests as the Pesha and Avon sins.

With the un-believers it’s because they are guilty of the Het sin. As it is written,

“YAHUAH hates the Brethren that soweth discord among the Brethren.” Proverbs 6:19

They cause the discord because they pervert the WORD and preach a false doctrine. Unfortunately there are far too many who are following man and are not RUACH (SPIRIT) led.

It is written,

“My people die and are destroyed for lack of and despising/rejecting the knowledge of MY WORD/ME. I will turn my back on them.” Hosea 4:6

Un-believers do not seek The Truth and when confronted with the Truth they reject it. This is something that I have experienced many times.

“But now I write to you not to associate intimately with the Brethren who are habitually immoral, covetous, an idolater,
a reviler, a drunkard, or a extortionist, with such a one do not even break bread to eat with.” 1 Corinthians 5:11

This scripture and many more clearly says that we must unhypocritically judge the habitual sinners and not associate with them. Many un-believers (pagan christians) support sodomisers, chrislam and other works of satan.

It is written,

“O faithless(Fearful) and perverse(Perverters of the WORD) generation, How long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Matthew 17:17

“But the fearful and unbelieving, the abominable, murderers, whoremongers, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Revelations 21:8

The fearful and the unbelieving are the un-believers amongst the Brethren and they have clearly committed the Het sin and will experience the second death. What YAHUSHUA said to HIS disciples is the same that can be said to many amongst the Brethren today.

And what is YAHUSHUA’s thoughts and feelings about unbelievers?

“I know your deeds (Acts, works and behaviour) that you desire, that you were neither ice cold nor boiling hot. I would rather have known you to be ice cold or boiling hot. Then, because you are lukewarm, and neither ice cold nor boiling hot, I will vomit you out of MY mouth.” Rev 3: 15-16

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in MASHIACH YAHUSHUA, who walk not after the flesh, but after RUACH (SPIRIT). For the law of RUACH of life in MASHIACH YAHUSHUA hath made me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, ELOHIYM sending his own SON in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after RUACH. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after RUACH the things of RUACH. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against ELOHIYM: for it is not subject to the law of ELOHIYM, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please ELOHIYM.” Romans 8:1

The Jews don’t take the Alpha as the first letter of their alphabet because it belongs to the Alpha and the Tav (YAHUAH / YAHUASHUA) The 2nd letter is Bate (B) which in the ancient Semitic language is a drawing of a tent floor design. Which means in. This is YAHUAH’s design to tabernacle within the tent/body of mankind. The other letter that is related to a tent is Het (H) which is a tent wall. Which means separated/out. Therefore you are missing from His original plan for Him to tabernacle within you when you’re not in Him when you’re missing as the reborn person.

I hope that from now on you would earnestly seek to paniym with YAHUAH and not focus on the fruits of your sins. Once you have an intimate relationship with YAHUAH the Pesha and Avon sins will be missing from your life. But most importantly don’t believe that you’re not separated from YAHUAH because you don’t commit any transgressions. Good people don’t have an eternal life with YAHUAH those that paniym with HIM have an eternal life.

Shalom
